Obituary

Alan Andre Banks was born on March 17,1964 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Mattie White Banks and Alan Pickett. Alan Pickett is the brother of the late R&B singer Wilson Pickett.  Alan was the baby of the family.

Early in his life, he followed his mother into the Christian faith where he was baptized.

During Alan formative years of his life, he attended and graduated from the Weequahic High School in Newark, New Jersey. During his working career he worked for the United State Postal Service and in his later years he worked for Refrig-It in Kearney, New Jersey. Alan loved and was dedicated to his job at Refrig-It.

Alan was a loving brother. Alan was fond of medicinal herbs treatments. If you told him that you had a cold headache or some type of illness, he could always tell you the type of herb that was needed to make you feel better. Alan also loved being fashionably dressed but did not like taking pictures. He would often complement people who he saw that were fashionably dressed. He loved getting dressed up to go and have fun with his friends on Thursday nights and Friday nights. He enjoyed walking and riding the bus to get around where he needed to go. He knew the times and routes of each bus in the Newark Transit system. Alan always saw the good in everybody and always wanted to spread love.

Loving memories will forever remain in the heart of his sister Helen Banks Williams (David) of Albany, Georgia, nephews Rasheen Johnson, and Dazmier Banks, nieces Sheeneefah Johnson and Khadijah Strain. He also leaves to cherish his memories six aunts Willa Nunnaley (Eddie) of East Orange, NJ, Bernice Stallings of Newark, NJ, Janice White of Hillside, NJ, Lena Davis of Albany, GA, Angela Roberts (Herman) of Albany, GA, Patricia Thompson (Edward) of Albany, GA. He was preceded in death by his mother Mattie White Banks and his father Alan Pickett and two brothers Reginald Banks and Daulton Banks. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Willie White Sr. and LeeAnnie (Brown) White, three aunts Eva (Hattie) Wright, Gertrude Avery, and Cherlyn White, also, two uncles to precede him in death Willie White, Jr. and Sammy Lee White. He also has a host of cousins and extended family and friends. He was faithful to his deceased friend and companion Vickie until her death in 2022.
