Obituary

Alonzo Robinson was born in Albany, Georgia on April 9, 1947, to the late Ruth Armstead and Leon Williams. He was later adopted by the late Missouri and Will Robinson.

He attended the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe and Albany High Schools where he participated in numerous school extra-curricular activities and functions. He graduated from Albany High in the class of 1966, but he continued participating with his class at Monroe. Alonzo's quest for knowledge was unending. In later years, he continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University in the area of Mass Media.

Alonzo believed strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country. Upon heeding the call to military duty, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed throughout the United States and abroad and served courageously in the Viet Nam Conflict, receiving numerous commendations for his bravery and valor. At the close of his tours of duty, he received an honorable discharge and returned to civilian life. Because of injuries sustained during his military enlistment, he was later granted military disability status.

Throughout his life, Alonzo had many passions and was always busy pursuing them. He was a uniquely creative and accomplished musician who utilized his talent as an original member of the "Velvetones" of Albany. He was an incredible saxophonist and enjoyed creating beautiful melodies that brought much joy to everyone around him.

On Saturday, September 13, 2017, Alonzo's musical journey came to a peaceful end in Boston, Massachusetts. The strong bonds of friendship that he developed over the years will long be remembered and cherished.

He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his memory two loving sons; four siblings, Kathleen Pugh (Eddie) Swan of Albany, GA, Geraldine Brooks of Atlanta, GA, Jerry Armstead of Orlando, FL and Barry Anderson of Lake City, FL; his beloved aunt, Lisa Kinson; three nieces and one nephew; other relatives and extended family; and a host of caring Monroe High School 1966 Classmates and friends.
