Obituary

Anna Kate Rivers Wimberly was born November 27, 1953, in Lee County, Georgia. She was the beloved daughter of the late Eva Bell Rivers Williams and David Davenport, Jr.

She received her formal education in the Lee County School System, including Lee County Training School where she graduated in the class of 1972.  Hailing from a family that valued higher education, Anna continued her quest for knowledge at Riley Training Institute in Albany, Georgia, earning a diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management.

At a very early age, she professed her faith and belief in Christ Jesus and united with the Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of the late Reverend Eugene Menefee.  She was a faithful member and willingly served wherever needed until her health declined.

Anna was a very persistent, conscientious mother who looked well to the ways of her household and ate not the bread of idleness.  Over the years, she was employed in diverse and very rewarding occupations, including machine operator, seamstress, registration officer, and hospitality management.  Anna worked hard to consistently pursue excellence throughout her career.  She was an altruistic individual who believed strongly in helping others and creating lasting memories.  Her hobbies included reading, sewing, dancing, listening to music, completing crossword puzzles, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Often described as a kind, compassionate, and loving individual, Anna was the sunshine in many hearts and never knew a stranger.   She was a selfless person, was easy to talk to, and was always able to find humor in most situations.  Anna was the kind of person that anyone would be proud to call daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.  To know her was to love and respect her.

On September 28, 2020, Anna departed this earthly life at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first born, Lasandra Butts; and six siblings, Joanne Williams, Lula Davenport Moore, Danny Williams, Sr., Clark Rivers, Sr., David Davenport, III, and Harvey Davenport.

She leaves a legacy of love to be cherished by her loving daughters, Schiquita Butts and Laquanda Butts of Leesburg, GA, and Pershenia (Roosevelt Jr.) Murray of Katy, TX; grandchildren, PFC Quanterius Mickens of San Diego, CA, Joshua and Sheniah Butts of Leesburg, GA, Kamari and Korbyn Murray of Katy, TX, SGT Jeremy Murray of Anchorage, AK, and Jada Murray of Fort Valley, GA; three sisters, Mary Wright of Spring Valley, NY, Ethel Murphy of Greer, SC, and Brenda Williams of Bainbridge, GA; sisters-in-law, Kathy Williams of Albany, GA and Janny Nelson Rivers of Kent, WA; an aunt, Murrie Rovers of Albany, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her loving and devoted companion, John Trice, who was by her side until the very end.
