The journey of life for Annie Lee Dawson Christian began in Albany, Georgia on September 14, 1936. She was the beloved daughter of the late J. D. and Annie L. Dawson.
During the early years of her life, she received her formal education in the Dougherty County School System. Throughout her school years, she was actively involved in various school organizations and activities.
Annie was a talented young woman who enjoyed life and took advantage of every opportunity to learn, grow and experience the world. In 1961, she relocated to Richmond, Virginia where she began her professional career. She was employed at VCU for 32 years; worked had to consistently pursue excellence in her duties and responsibilities; and retired having rendered loyal and dedicated service.
A joy to be around, Annie was a very genuine, kind-hearted, individual who showed love in many ways. She was one of those rare people who always had the interest of others at heart, was selfless and saw the beauty in all things, and could converse with anyone who came into her life. Oftentimes during her 55 years in Virginia, she reminisced about her childhood; her family; and her humble beginnings. Annie touched the lives of people around her in a very special way and made many lasting friendship. You couldn't know her without being inspired by her love and devotion to her family, friends, and community. Cooking was one of her greatest life pleasures. She loved being in the kitchen and her table was always spread with delicious treats for family and friends to enjoy.
Annie returned to Albany in 2016 to begin the final length of her life's journey. On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, Annie's earthly season ended at Wynfield Park Nursing Center. Her unwavering spirit, generosity, and unconditional love will forever be remembered.
Left with many loving memories to cherish are her siblings, Delia Jefferson, Lillie Kegler, Julia Dawson, Anita Brown, Scott (Robbin) Dawson, and Pastor Willie (Annie Ruth) Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, and friends.
