Obituary

The journey of life for Mother Annie Lois Higgins Benjamin began in Dawson, Georgia on August 23, 1923.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Clarence and Beulah McClendon Higgins.

During the early years of her life, she attend James Griggs Public School of Terrell County.  She later continued her education at Albany Vocational Technical Center where she completed the Nursing Assistant Program.  She received additional training through the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital  Continuing Education Program.

Having professed her faith in Christ at a very early age, she united with the Rose Hill Baptist Church in Terrell County.  For many years, she was a faithful, dedicated member who served willingly wherever needed.  After relocating to Albany, Georgia in 1968, she and her family united with the Cutliff Grove Baptist Church.  Mother Benjamin served unwaveringly as a Deaconess, a member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, the Sunday School Class for Women, and numerous other capacities until her health declined.  She was a vessel who was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord; who loved her church family immensely; and who was strong  in character and wisdom.

She was united in holy matrimony to Albert Benjamin, Jr.  Their bond endured through the years as they honored their vows to love and cherish each other.  As a loving wife and devoted mother of nine children, she was extremely conscientious in caring for the needs of her family through her employment in the health care industry.  She was a dedicated professional whose care, compassionate nature, and willingness to go the extra mile for others touched the lives of many.  She retired after rendering innumerable years of loyal and dedicated service.

Always gentle, kind, and personable, Mother Benjamin was loved by all who had the privilege of having her in their lives.  She was a selfless person who saw the beauty in all things, accepted everyone for who they were, and openly welcomed them into her heart and home.  You couldn't know her without being inspired by her love and devotion to her family, friends, church, and community.  She will be dearly missed.

On October 3, 2019, Mother Benjamin quietly answered the Master's call to come home.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert Benjamin, Jr.; and seven children, Ralph, Fronnie, Egeneice, George, Nathaniel, Clarence, and Jerome.

Left with many loving memories to cherish are her children, Annete (David) Daniel of Jacksonville, FL and Johnny Rufus Benjamin of Atlanta, GA; and a host of  grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
