Annie Susie McCoy Thornton was born May 25, 1938 in Blakely, GA to the late Bradford and Vessie McCoy. She attended Washington High School in Blakely, GA. At an early age she joined Oak Grove Methodist Church.
On March 13, 1954, she married Joe L. Thornton Sr. To this union two children were born, Bevelyn and Joe Jr.
After moving to Albany, Ga, she joined Third Kiokee Baptist Church under Rev. R. B. Smith where she served faithfully in numerous capacities including, teaching Sunday School, becoming a deaconess and joining the Willing Workers Ministry where she worked until her health began to fail her.
Often described as a strong outspoken individual, Annie never met a stranger, and always had something funny to say. She diligently cared for the needs of her family, loved her grands and was a "mom" to many.
On December 21, 2021 at Phoebe Putney Hospital at 3:00 PM, God whispered to her and said come my sweet angel and go to your new home in heaven and she peacefully obeyed.
Six siblings preceded her in death; Mattie, Alma, Willie, James, Wilbert and Ellis. She leaves to treasure her memories, a devoted daughter Bevelyn Glover (Robert) of Albany, GA and loving son Joe Thornton Jr. (Evelyn) of Blakely, GA, one sister, Marie Maham, Albany, GA,
four sisters-in-law; Norma Gadson, Mary Washington, Mary McCoy and Brenda McCoy, four grandchildren; Chey, Trez, Tabitha and Ronald, nine great grands and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
