Anthony Lamard Gilyard, Sr., son of Eula Harvey Gilyard and the late Johnny Lee Gilyard, was born in Albany, Georgia on September 5, 1959.
He attended the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe Comprehensive High School where he was active in numerous school activities and organizations.
Anthony believed strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably. At the close of his tours of duty, he received an honorable discharge and returned home ready to conquer the world.
Throughout his life, Anthony was a hardworking individual who gave his best at whatever he did. Over the years, he worked numerous jobs, including mowing lawns at the ae of 10, bagging at Daylight Grocery, and working in construction. After moving to Panama City, Florida, he was a maintenance worker at an apartment complex; and later, worked as a car detailer at the Bay City Airport. He also completed requirements to become certified in auto body and collision repair. Anthony was a persistent, dedicated employee who labored untiringly until becoming disabled after a very tragic accident. Through all of life's challenges and triumphs, he always remained courageous and joyful.
Loving son, devoted husband, dutiful father, caring brother, committed uncle, and loyal friend, Anthony embraced opportunities and the chance to experience life with open arms. He was a very outgoing person who took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with his family and friends. He had an engaging personality, a gigantic heart, a very welcoming spirit, and he reached out to help anyone in need. His loving kindness and friendship will long be remembered.
On Friday, January 18, 2019, Anthony departed this earthly life and transitioned to his eternal home. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Jaqulina Gilyard.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, Veverlyn Gilyard; his mother, Eula Harvey Gilyard; children, Tawanda McKeever, Anthony Gilyard, Jr., Brianna Nixon, Lashantay Dunah, Anthony Moye, Pamela Frazier, Karen Johnson, Shabreaka Marshall, and Lakeisha Marshall; siblings, Cathy Gilyard, Julie White, Nadine Jones, Larry Gilyard, and Jimmy Gilyard; three special grandchildren, Tikeria McKeever, Desarae Johnson, and Omesha Marshall; twenty-six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; best friend, Jesse Williams; sisters-in-law, Bessie Watts, Eva Marshall, Patricia Washington, Marie Ball, Elaine Marshall, and Robin Marshall; brothers-in-law, Agnew Jones, Willie Jackson, Eddie Brantley, David Marshall, and Charles Marshall; a special nephew, Kentavious (Dominque) Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
