IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arnold Ellis
Clay, Jr.
May 26, 1945 – November 5, 2023
Arnold Ellis Clay, Jr. was born in Albany, Georgia on May 26, 1945. He was the oldest child in the union of the late Arnold Ellis Clay, Sr. and Lillie Ruth Clay.
He was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Monroe High School. Throughout school, "David" as he was called by family and friends was a very active and energetic student who garnered much from his educational and co-curricular experiences.
Ready to serve his country after high school, Arnold enlisted in the United States Army where he served with distinction. He was a soldier to the core and the discipline and patriotism that he gained in the military never left him. After completing his tour of duty, he returned home to civilian life.
Arnold was formerly married to the late Bessie Patterson Clay. Their union was blessed with five loving children.
With a work ethic second to none, Arnold was an extremely conscientious, loyal employee of Firestone for numerous years. His hands were never idle and he never shied away from hard work. Often, he was recognized for his exemplary work performance and commitment. After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, he accepted employment with the Atlanta Public School System as a bus driver. He took great pride in his driving skills while ensuring the safety of his student passengers. Upon retirement in 2007, Arnold was described as an outstanding employee who was totally dedicated to his profession and a great friend to many people. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, kickboxing, and watching westerns.
Loving father, nurturing grandfather, awesome brother, caring uncle, loyal cousin, and unforgettable friend, Arnold was simply a true joy to everyone around him. His contagious smile and happy demeanor could light up a room and there was never a dull moment when in his presence. Treasured above all things was the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Nothings could replace the memories made with his family. He will be sorely missed by all who shared his life and loved him dearly.
On November 5, 2023, Arnold transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Monica Clay.
Cherished memories will forever remain with his children, Veronica (Lee) Jordan, Romona Fields, and Erica Clay all of Albany, GA, Arnold Ellis Clay II of Fayetteville, GA, Michael Clay of Stockbridge, GA, Antwan Clay of Camden, GA, Talon Collins of Atlanta, GA, and Brandon Sapp; two siblings, Robert Lee (Ann) Clay and Anita Maria (Curtis) Moody; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
