Obituary

Arthur Cheatham was the seventh child born to the union of John and Mittie Cheatham in Doerun, Georgia on September 7, 1936.

During the early years of his life, he attended Mitchell Grove Church School and later attended Holley High School in Worth County.

Throughout his childhood, Arthur was nurtured in the Word of God.  At a young age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Bailey Chapel AME Church of Doerun, Georgia. Over the years, he served faithfully in various capacities of the church and was  always willing to help wherever needed.  He was a faithful servant of the Lord whose faith never wavered.

On December 13, 1958, Arthur was joined in holy matrimony to Hazel E. Tolbert of Mitchell County.  Their union endured through the years and was blessed with a loving family.  Together, they nurtured their children and taught them to be respectful and humble, to love one another, and to love and trust in the Lord.  Arthur was a caring, devoted husband and father who loved his family dearly.  He was a excellent provider, was never satisfied with idleness, and never shied away from hard work.  For many years, he was employed as a production worker with Power Fiat, and later advanced to the position of supervisor of the Shipping Department.  He was a very conscientious individual who gave his best at whatever he did.  Not only did he take pride in his work, but he truly relished the friends that he made during his employment.  He retired after rendering over 40 years of  service.

Arthur was a very unique man who was full of life, compassionate, loving, and giving.  He was a very genuine person who loved the Lord, his family, and his fellowman.  Often described as a hardworking, determined individual, he was also a people's person who greatly impacted his community and touched the lives of many with his kind words and deeds.  He had an endless  reservoir of love for family and friends and he took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with them—especially his children and grandchildren.  He will be missed by all who dearly loved him.

On March 25, 2019, Arthur transitioned to eternal rest.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel T. Cheatham; and two daughters, Deborah and Leketa.

His love and fond memories will continue on in the hearts of his children, Glenwood Sr. of Albany, GA, Arthur Jr. (Ernestine) and Darryl Sr. (Valerie) of Taylors, SC, and Christopher Sr. (Michelle) of Anderson, SC; ten grandchildren;  and eleven great grandchildren.
