Ashley Green was born in Summerville, South Carolina on May 27, 1940, to the late Hattie and Lawton Green.
He received his formal education in the Dorchester School District of Summerville, South Carolina where his interest in automotive service and industrial metalworks began.
In the early 1960's, he moved to Florida where he met and married Ledora Lanier. To this union, six children were born. Later, in 1970, Ashley was given a second chance at love and marriage with Georgia Stephens and they were blessed with three children. Family was paramount in his life! He was a devoted husband and father who provided unconditionally for his family. Upon relocating to Albany, Georgia in 1974, he joined the ranks of employees at Fiat Products (Crane Plumbing) as a metal finisher. He was a loyal, dedicated employee who diligently poured himself into his work until retirement in 2009.
A man of great faith and belief in Christ Jesus, Ashley united with New Provisor Baptist Church under the leadership and guidance of Pastor Howard K. James, Sr. He was a strong man of God who faithfully availed himself in Christian service and was unfaltering in his devotion and calling as an Usher until his demise. His dedication, ever-ready smile, and humble nature garnered much love from the church members and visitors.
Ashley was a strong but gentle man whose heart was filled with kindness, care, and compassion for that he knew and encountered. Anyone who knew him would agree that he was extremely straight-forward and unpretentious; but he was also the voice of calm, comfort, and humility. He truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and considered no one a stranger. If you were loved by him, you were loved forever. He was a friend you could count on, a great listener and confidant, and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Two of his greatest pastimes were fishing and working on cars—a passion that he developed early in life.
On May 29, 2022, Ashley transitioned to eternal rest at his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Herman and five siblings.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Georgia S. Green; eight children, Dorothy, Eddie (Patricia), Deborah (Lawrence), Vella, Philip (Kimberly), Felicia, Daryl, and Anita; one sister, Loretta (Willis); grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
