Obituary

Barbara Ann Nicks Bennett was born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 23, 1946, to the late Priscilla N. Alston and Allen Brown. She was the fourth of seven children: sisters, Ronnie, Rondagal, Vera, Patricia, and; and brothers, Earl and John.

She received her secondary education at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, New York. Barbara excelled exceptionally as a student and was a ray of sunshine to teachers, fellow students, and friends.

In 1964, Barbara married Eugene Bennett who preceded her in death. Their union was blessed with five children.

As a wife and mother, she was deeply devoted to her family with a steadfast and caring love. Over the years, she skillfully balanced her responsibilities as a homemaker with her employment as a traffic officer in New York City.

Upon retirement in 2002, she relocated to Albany, Georgia to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Family was her most precious treasure. Settling in Albany, she united with St. Teresa's Catholic Church and lived her life as a devoted catholic.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Barbara was a joy to be around; a provider of strength, knowledge and wisdom; and someone you could always count on. She believed deeply in unconditional love, delighted in spending time with family and friends, was a avid reader; and truly enjoyed watching cartoons with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a strong, spiritual individual to all who had the privilege of being a part of her life..

On September 12, 2023, Barbara transitioned from this earthly life. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Ronnie, Rondagal, Vera, Patricia, and Earl.

Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Eviolet, LaTonya, Pomeratta, Patriia, and Nayati; siblings, Shirley and John; 17 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
