Obituary

The journey of life for Barbara R. Willis began on October 30, 1944, in Albany, Georgia. She was the first of seven children born to the late Mary and ID Willis.

She was educated in the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe High School, graduating in 1964. While at Monroe, she was very active in numerous school organizations and activities. After graduation, she continued her education at Albany State College.

Barbara was a talented and fun-loving young woman who enjoyed life and wanted to take advantage of every opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the world. At the age of 25, she moved to Washington, DC where she became a 30-year resident. While there, she professed her faith and belief in Christ Jesus. For numerous years, Barbara was employed with the Nigerian Embassy in imports and exports. She worked hard to consistently pursue excellence throughout her career. When faced with health challenges, she returned to Albany where she resided until her demise.

Known for her strong but sweet spirit, Barbara knew how to make every family member and friends feel special. She understood the importance of creating memories and sacrificed time and effort to spend quality time with those whom she loved.

On April 17, 2020, Barbara transitioned from this earthly life at Wynfield Park Health and Rehabilitation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Willis Smith.

She leaves lasting memories that will remain in the hearts of her siblings, Clara Willis Ross, Ola D. Willis, Arthur Gervin, and Aaron Cheatham all of Albany, GA, and Diane Willis of Washington, DC; two aunts, Patricia Ann Jordan of New York and Bertha Mathis of Albany, GA; a special friend, Sue Gibson; a very devoted cousin, legal guardian, and caretaker, Henry (Carolyn) Mathis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
