Benjamin Prater was born August 29, 1938 in Musella, Ga. to the late Canary Flicking and April 3, 2023 when he crossed over the heavenly threshold Benjamin Prater accepted Christ and joined the church at an early age. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Atlanta Ga. prior to moving to Albany, Ga. After moving to Albany. Benjamin along with his wife, Barbara joined Berachah Fellowship Church, where he
served as a Honorary Deacon.
On August 1, 1980, Benjamin was united with in Holy matrimony with Barbara Wade of Albany, Ga. This union was blessed for over 42 years.
Benjamin never met a stranger. He loved his church, loved his family, loved people, loved to talk, loved to share his carpenter skills and knowledge with others. He was a dedicated neighbor. Rain, Snow, Sleet or Shine, Benjamin Prater would put the neighbor's kids on the bus in the morning and get them off the bus in the afternoon, making sure they would get home safely.
In 1968, Benjamin Prater became a member of Local Union 225 as a Master Carpenter in Atlanta, GA. During his career, Benjamin worked with several well-known construction companies such as Seaco, Baston-Cook and McElroy just to name a few. He was instrumental in the building of South Dekalb Mall, Atlanta Hartfield Airport and the MARTA Station. In 1987, Benjamin started his own business, B Prater Construction Company. He worked for Grady Hospital as a General Contractor, where he was awarded multiple contracts. The contracts included: Renovating Hugh Spalding Children Hospital, Renovating the 4th and 12th floor(s) of Grady Hospital, Renovating multiple clinics for Grady Hospital throughout the Metro Atlanta area.
He leaves his loving memories to be treasured by his loving & devoted wife for 42 years, Barbara his children Vickie Prater, Yvonne Prater, Benjamin (Salene) Prater, Tonja Goss All of Atlanta GA, Bernard (Gayle) Ferrell of Albany GA, Grandchildren: Vestrida (Warren), Marisa Prater, Talia Prater All of Atlanta, GA Shaqueta Prater Davisof San Antonia, Texas, Noah Prater of Conyer GA, Siblings: Susie (Bobby) Goddard of Decatur, GA Mary Moran (Wilmer)of Macon GA, Archie Prater of Atlanta GA, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, sister/brother-in-laws: Dorris
Neal, Wilhelmina (LeeRoy) Howard, Arvilla (Charlie) Marks, and Sarah Butler, all of Albany, GA, and Alice Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; John Wade of Washington, DC, Robert Archibald, William (Kelly) Davis, and Tommy (Janet) Davis, of Albany, GA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Berachah Fellowship Church family and friend.
