IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernice Lavern
Spurlin
October 27, 1943 – December 4, 2022
Bernice Spurlin was born in Albany, Georgia on October 27, 1943. She was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred Spurlin and Lucille Byrd Spurlin.
She received her formal education in the Dougherty County School System. Throughout school, she was a thoughtful and caring young lady who consistently demonstrated exceptional talents and potential.
Raised in a strong Christian home, Bernice became a soldier for Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of River Road Church of Christ (Church of Christ at Gaines Avenue) where she remained steadfast in Christian stewardship for over 30 years.
Domestic at heart, Bernice was unwavering in her dedication to foster a home filled with love, joy, and strong values. She was a selfless, altruistic mother i who ate not the bread of idleness and always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. Bernice truly loved her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who held the key to her heart. She was full of energy, stayed on the move, and was well organized—everything had its place! Anyone visiting her home could readily see that she was an immaculate housekeeper who firmly believed that cleanliness was next to godliness
An outspoken yet kind and generous lady, Bernice had a servant's heart and always stood ready to help others or lend a listening ear. Many people considered her a trusted counsel and a difference maker whose doors were always open. She was the kind of person that anyone would be proud to call mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
On December 4, 2022, Bernice transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Doreen Spurlin; seven siblings, Nathaniel Spurlin, Elijah Spurlin, Alfred Spurlin, Andrew Spurlin, Princetta Spurlin Eady, Gwen Spurlin, and Jean Byrd; and four nieces, Rosetta Sims, Lavadia Sims, Alice Sims, and Annie R.
