Obituary

Bessie Mae Grant Floyd, daughter of Leila Thomas Grant and the late Hardwick Grant, was born in Albany, Georgia on April 28, 1949.

She was educated the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe High School where she actively participated in various student organizations and activities.  Throughout her school years, she was a ray of sunshine to peers, teachers, and close friends.  Bessie was a considerate, attentive young lady with a yearning to be of service and help to others.  In later years, she continued her education at Albany Technical College, earning a diploma in Practical Nursing and, subsequently, was licensed as an LPN.

Throughout her childhood, Bessie was nurtured in the Word of God.   She began her journey with the Lord at an early age and remained a faithful servant until her demise.  After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, she united with Praise and Worship Temple in East Point, Georgia under the leadership of Bishop Bobby Hopkins.  She was a God-fearing woman who dearly loved the Lord; studied and lived by the Word of God; and was dedicated to her church and the ministries to which she belonged.

In 1980, she was united in holy matrimony Isiah Floyd.  They shared a love that endured through the years and a devotion to one another that was strong and unshakeable.  Bessie was a devoted wife and mother who looked well to the ways of her household and ate not the bread of idleness.  For more than 30 years, she consistently demonstrated excellence through her life-long contribution to the field of nursing at South Fulton Medical Center.  She was thorough, detail oriented, and took pride in doing a great job.  Bessie served her patients with dignity, respect, and true compassion; and she had a natural gift for making a difference in the lives of many people.  She retired after rendering unparalleled service to her employer and all mankind.

Bessie truly enjoyed life and all that it had to offer.  She had a big heart, a welcoming spirit, and delighted in spending time with her family—especially her boys who held the key to her heart.  She was a strong but gentle lady; a trusted friend and confident; and was always available to lend a listening ear to those in need of compassion and support.  Her friendliness and kindness to all people and her devotion to family and friends are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul.

On August 26, 2021, Almighty God called his faithful servant home to eternal rest and peace.  Although absent from the body, she will forever be present in the heart of her beloved husband, Isiah Floyd, Jr.; two sons, Isiah Floyd III and Dominique Floyd of Atlanta, GA; her mother, Leila Thomas Grant of Albany, GA; siblings, Willie Mae Grant Dixon, Levine (Matilda) Grant, and Hardwick Grant, Jr. of Albany, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
