Obituary

Bessie Mary Gilbert, daughter of the late Judge and Katie Lou Gilbert, was born in Early County, Georgia on December 25, 1943. She was a graduate of Monroe High School.

At a very early age, Bessie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted member of the Greater Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church and loved sharing her faith with others.

Throughout her life, she held fast to her belief that work is honorable. She was a loyal employee of the Quality Inn of Albany and retired after many years of dedicated service.

Bessie Mae , as she was lovingly called, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who was very kind and gentle-hearted. She embraced life's experiences with open arms and truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her engaging personality captured the hearts of all who knew her.

On Thursday, May 4, 2017, she answered her final call and quietly entered into eternal rest.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Judge Gilbert, Jr.

Fond memories will forever be cherished by her children, Beverly G. (Jurenee) Porter, Larry B. (Gwen) Gilbert, and Melissa Gilbert of Albany, GA; two sisters, Betty Malone and Bonnie (Curtis) Collins of Albany, GA; her sister-in-law, Helen Gilbert of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Leshana, Tidisha, Jurisma, Lakia, and Larry Jr.; great grandchildren, Jamonzea, Jalandon, Kennedi, Jaden, and Christian; a special friend, Debra Stalling; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Christ knows what's best for me and for you

So we have begun to heal from your death, but we must be true

We will miss you often and we will cry

We will also rejoice within our hearts; as we think of our reunion with you and the Most High.

Rest our dear mother! You fought a good fight;

a job well done

For you overcame so many ordeals;

Victory with Jesus you have won.
