IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jean
West
August 14, 1942 – August 30, 2019
Betty Jean West was born on August 14, 1942 in Leesburg, Georgia to her earthly shepherds, the late Willie (Willie Ruth) Brown, Jr. She was educated by the Lee County Public School System. She worked various jobs prior to settling into her dream job – wife, mother, and home-maker.
At an early age, Betty dedicated her life to Christ; she joined Wooden Grove Baptist Church in Leesburg, Georgia under Pastor Murray. She later moved her membership to the Faith Temple House of Prayer in Albany, Georgia under the leadership of her brother, Pastor Nathaniel Brown. With the Lord being her SHEPHERD, she didn't want for anything. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. –Psalm 23:6, KJV
Betty married the love of her life and her soul-mate, King West, Jr. of Vienna, Georgia. The "two" became "one" and remained together for more than 50 years. They held true to their wedding vows – Until Death Do Us Part. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. -1 Corinthians 13:7-8
Mama loved to quote Psalm 23, verses 4 and 5: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. To say quoting these verses is an understatement – Mama lived and preached them with a booming voice and great convictions.
On Friday, August 30, 2019, Mama fell asleep in Jesus at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her memories and to carry on her legacy seven sons: Howard Robinson of Atlanta, GA; David Brown, Marcel (Linda) Loving and Darrin (Valencia) West, all of Albany, GA; Boris Brown of Orlando, FL; Gregory (Kenya) West of Jacksonville, FL; and King Bernard West of Dothan, AL; four sisters: Polly Ann Taylor-Hobbs of Apopka, FL; Jeanette Beach, Shirley Brown, and Brenda(Richard) Barnes all of Albany, GA; six brothers: Robert Brown, Willie(Yvonne) Brown, Jr., both of Albany, GA; Joseph Brown of Hardwick, GA; Nathaniel (Ann) Brown of Americus, GA; and Paul Brown of Alpharetta, GA; one uncle, Charles Waters of Leesburg, GA; twenty-six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
