IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beverly Collette
Monroe
August 25, 1951 – May 16, 2021
Beverly C. Monroe was born in Newark, Jersey on August 25, 1951, to the late Hosea and Edythe Mitchell.
She was educated in the Newark Public School System, including Weequaic High School where she was actively involved in numerous student organizations, events, and activities. Believing strongly in life-long learning, she continued her education at Johnson & Wales University, earning an undergraduate degree.
Beverly was a loving and dedicated mother whose diligence in caring for her son, Millard Jr., was unsurpassed. For many years, she worked hard to make a positive and lasting impact while consistently pursuing excellence in her work as a paralegal until her retirement in 1992.
After retirement, Beverly relocated to Albany, Georgia where she met her life partner, Tonja Price. They took great pride in being major fixtures in the community through their participation and involvement in various service activities. Beverly's trustworthy nature, nurturing personality, and loving spirit touched the lives and hearts of many people to whom she became "auntie, mother, or sister." She had a big heart, gave of herself freely. Her kindness was known throughout the neighborhood and she was always there to help family, friends, children, and even a stranger in need. As a Queen would do, Beverly welcomed everyone into her heart and home.
Although Beverly's earthly departure on May 16, 2021 leaves a void in the hearts of family and friends, her selfless spirit will always be remembered. She was the life partner and best friend of Tonja Price; the devoted mother of Millard Shukree; loving grandmother of Qayyim Shukree and Khafi Shukree; supportive mother-in-love to Jullanar Shukree; committed sister of Eulalia Gilbert and Reginald Mitchell; and the nurturing auntie to Darren Gilbert, Kevin Gilbert, and Rahman James. Beverly's memory will also be cherished by a host of uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and extended family world-wide.
