IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonna
King
August 23, 1958 – March 1, 2019
Bonna King, long-time Radio Personality/Gospel Music Announcer, was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 23, 1958. She was the beloved daughter of the late Billie jean King and Reverend Melvin Jackson.
Growing up, Bonna showed an early fascination with broadcasting, using makeshift devices as her tools of the trade. Her passion, tenacity, and determination followed her into adulthood, where she became a radio personality with WPFB and WCKY in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was also featured in Essence Magazine. After relocating to Albany, Georgia, she was employed as a meteorologist and news anchor at Fox 31. Bonna enjoyed enormous popularity in the broadcasting world and became a fixture in the Albany community at WZBN Praise 105.5. She had a very unique way of appealing to her listeners and tapping into the core and vein of Gospel music. Her knowledge of artists and their music was encyclopedic and her joy in sharing it was irrepressible.
Bonna's voice was a true gift that left a profound and indefinable impact on the community. She was a charismatic, career driven, and good humored, individual who walked to the beat of he own drum. Her exuberant personality and kind spirit were contagious. To know her was to love and be inspired by her. When not at work, she enjoyed traveling to St. Simons Island, spending time with family, and journaling.
On the evening of March 1, 2019, Bonna's "air time" was stilled and she transitioned to her heavenly home. She will genuinely be missed by all who allowed her to be a part of their lives.
She is survived by her daughter, Ashley Dawn Ware-Wilson; her father, Reverend Melvin Jackson; sister, Beverly Ann King; grandson, Logan Lamar Wilson; and her son-in-law, Rico Lamar Wilson.
