Remembering Her Life
December 27, 1944 ~ April 4, 2018
Cyrinthia Ruth Jones Thomas was born in Dothan, Alabama on December 27, 1944. She was the beloved daughter of the late Revelt and Annie Victoria Jones.
Growing up in Houston County, she was educated in the Dothan City School System, including Carver High School where she graduated in the class of 1962. While at Carver High, she was very active in numerous school organizations and activities.
From a very early age, Ruth was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the North Highland Baptist Church of Dothan, Alabama. In later years after moving to Albany, she activated the principles of the church covenant and united with the Miracle Missionary Baptist Church. Through the years, she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and secretary until her health declined. In 2010 in the midst of prolonged health issues, she relocated to Rex, Georgia with her daughter, and continued her Christian fellowship under Watch Care at the Word of Faith Lovecenter in East Point, Georgia. Ruth was a strong woman of faith, prayer, courage, and conviction. She dearly loved the Lord and her church family.
She was united in holy matrimony to David Thomas and they were blessed with a loving daughter , Valeria. As a wife and mother, Ruth was a persistent, hardworking woman who ate not the bread of idleness. She was an incredibly talented and zealous cook with a burning desire to pursue a career in food and nutrition. Daily, her culinary skills were put to test in various capacities within the Dougherty County School System's Child Nutrition Program.. Over the years, she took great pride in ensuring that children and staff were provided nutritious and delicious meals. She retired as manager of the Nutrition Program at Westover High School in 2007, after having rendered 47 years of loyal and dedicated service.
Ruth was a devoted mother, nurturing grandmother, caring sister, loving aunt, and compassionate friend who was always there to lend a helping hand. Anyone who knew her also knew that family and friends were cherished gifts. Her passionate, one-of-a-kind personality attracted a wide circle of people who became the recipients of a long, loving, and lasting friendship. Ruth enjoyed the basics of life. The list of her interests and talents could go on and on since there wasn't much she didn't dabble in or try. But, her greatest joy was endless shopping and cooking.
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, she peacefully transitioned from the cares of this life to her heavenly home with the Lord. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by three siblings, Lonnie Jones, Johnnie Jones, and Queen Esther Sams.
