Obituary

Calvin Jones, Jr. , son of the late Calvin Jones, Sr. and Bessie Lue Harper, was born in Sasser, Georgia on June 7, 1935.

During his formative years, he received his formal education in the Terrell County School System.

From a very early age, Calvin was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support.  As a youth, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior; was baptized; and received the "right hand of fellowship" into the body of Christ at Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  Through the years, he served faithfully and was unfaltering in his devotion and commitment as a Deacon.  He was a prayerful, humble man who didn't mind telling everyone about the goodness of God.  Deacon Jones stayed on the battlefield until his transition.

He was united in holy matrimony to his life-long love, Ola Mae Burkes.  Their union was blessed with nine children who were taught to love God, to love one another, and to be respectful.  Deacon Jones was a loving husband, dedicated father, and a great provider for his family.  For more than 40 years, he enjoyed a very diverse career as a welder, landscaper, home renovator, and an employee of Alcorn Associates where he received numerous accolades and commendations for outstanding service.  He was proud of his work record and gave his BEST .

Deacon Jones was a selfless individual whose heart was filled with  kindness, care, compassion, and love for all mankind.  He was hospitable and generous—always ready to lend a helping hand and never saying no to anyone in need.  Family and friends were paramount in his life and he enjoyed spending quality time with them.  Deacon Jones was a great conversationalist who loved to share stories and words of wisdom.  He had the unique ability to draw people towards him, always had a positive attitude, was quick to smile and laugh, and was an expert at making people feel good about life.  Those who knew him also knew that he was a man of  honor and a man of his word who staunchly believed in paying his tithes, paying his debts on time, and being punctual for appointments.  In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, cooking, grilling, and watching wrestling.

On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, God called his faithful servant home.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ola Mae Burkes Jones; and two children.

Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Calvin E. Jones, Mary F. Jones, and Shirley Clyde of Albany, GA, Marvin (Shelia) Jones of Marietta, GA, Gloria Purnell of St. Mary's, GA, Troy Jones of Dublin, GA, Larry (Elaine) Jones of Winder, GA, and Lorenzo (Cassandra) Jones of McDonough, GA; special cousin/caretaker, Emma Bell Pinkins of Albany, GA; siblings, Alfred Thomas of Columbia, SC, Lester Thomas of New Rochelle, NY, and Cassie Willoughby of New York; 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
