Obituary

Carlton Gene Cross was born on October 15, 1958, in Albany, Georgia.   He was the beloved son of the late Charlie and Bernice Cross.

During the early years of his life, he received his formal education in the public schools of Dougherty County and was active in numerous school organizations and activities.

At a very early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Arcadia Baptist Church.  He was a dedicated member for numerous years and willingly served wherever needed.

Carlton was a very persistent individual whose professional work life was very rewarding.  He was an employee of the Dougherty County School System who gave his best and equal importance to every task that he encountered at Dougherty High School.  He believed strongly in working hard for what you want, being willing to do the right thing, and making sure that no task was left undone.  Over the years, he made many life-long friends through his employment.

Loving son, dutiful father, caring brother, committed uncle, and loyal friend, "Big K," as he was called by family and close friends, embraced opportunities and the chance to experience life with open arms.  He was an outspoken but kind man who showed love in many ways.  He was one of those rare people who always had the interest of others at heart; who was selfless and accepted everyone for who they were; and who delighted in spending time with family and friends.  Through all of life's health challenges, Carlton  remained upbeat, joyful, strong, and created lasting memories that will never be forgotten.

On December 2, 2019, Carlton departed this earthly life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Melissa Cross, Gerald Cross, and Timothy Cross.

Fond memories will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Carla (Aaron) Goudy who was also his caregiver, Carlton Gene Cross, Carlton Cross, Jr., Mesha Cross, Anneisha Cross, and Elicia Harris.; his stepson, Marcus Whiters; siblings, Wanda (Eddie) Brown, Patrice Cross, Junie Turner, and Cardelia McWilson; aunts, Mattye Lindsey and Brenda (Clarence) Isler of Lithonia, GA, and Juanita (Fred) Norman of Fayetteville, NC; great aunt, Mary Michael of San Antonio, TX; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
