Obituary

Carolyn was born in Albany, Georgia on March 20, 1959, to Beatrice F. Johnson the late Jesse James Johnson.  She was the eldest of five siblings.  Very early in life, Carolyn accepted Christ as her personal Savior and remained steadfast in her faith throughout life's journey.

She received her formal education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Westover High School in 1979.  While at Westover, she was active in various school organizations and activities.

In 1981, she married Alfred Banks of Americus, Georgia.  Their union endured through the years and was blessed with two daughters, Kimberly and Felicia; thus, making their family complete.

Carolyn was a gifted pianist; could play complex compositions by ear; and was widely known in the Southwest Georgia area for her musical talent, flair, and ability.  Music brought her great joy and she devoted herself faithfully in service to the Lord while playing at various churches much of her life.

An avid reader and scholar, Carolyn encouraged and instilled academic achievement in both of her daughters.  She worked hard to consistently pursue excellence in her home and family.  Amid her many church and family activities, Carolyn made time for her personal interests and enjoyment. She loved singing, needlepoint, and taking long walks—reveling in nature's beauty.  Her intellect, energetic spirit, wild heart, sense of adventure, and love of Rich James will continue to live on in the memory of those she loved.

Carolyn transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest on December 21, 2020.  In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Banks; and three siblings, Willie Henry,  Jesse James, Jr., and Sandra Michelle.

Loving memories will forever remain with her mother, Beatrice; daughters, Kimberly Elaine "Ilena" and Felicia Nacole; brother, Leonard; niece, LaSaundra; great nieces and nephew, Dyamond, Jamaria, Kamaya, and Kameron; several cousins; and an extended family of friends.
