Obituary

Carolyn Bailey Brown was born on July 8, 1953, in Blakely, GA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Elbert Bailey Jr. and Malinda Humphrey Bailey. Carolyn was the sixth of nine children.

Carolyn was educated in the Early County School System. Although she attended Washington High School during her freshman year, she graduated from Early County High School in 1971 due to desegregation. Carolyn was active with her class and often reminisced about the fond memories she loved and enjoyed. She furthered her education at Saint Augustine University in Raleigh, North Carolina and received a bachelor's degree in social studies. While there, Carolyn became an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Carolyn began her professional career in education while living in White Plains, New York. After relocating to Albany, Georgia, she was employed with Head Start and the Dougherty County School System for over 25 years. As an educator, Carolyn worked in the classroom and managed/directed educational centers.

Carolyn was married to Leobia V. Brown Jr. (Jack) for 28 years. Their union was blessed with two loving daughters and one dear grandson.

Carolyn was a devoted member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She loved singing in the choir, being a part of the Pattie Lofton's Women's Missionary Society, and serving as director of the Young People's Department (YPD). Working with the children gave her life and tranquility. One of her greatest passions was listening to gospel music, including, the Georgia Mass and Mississippi Mass Choirs, Rance Allen, Richard Smallwood, and Andre Crouch. Carolyn was also passionate about reading; especially spiritual daily devotional books.

A real people person and awesome conversationalist, Carolyn left an indelible mark in the hearts of her family and friends . She will be long be remembered by her words of encouragement, "Don't Stop, Keep Going, and Never Give Up!"

On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Carolyn answered the Master's call to come home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Willard Bailey and Gene Bailey.

Fond memories will forever be cherished by her daughters, Lydia Brown and Crystal Brown; her grandson, Legend Brown; siblings, Elder Clarancy Mae Jackson, Mary (Robert) Gregory, Geraldine Bailey, Yvonne Brooks, Charles Bailey, and Freddy Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
