IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn
Roberts
February 2, 1942 – May 4, 2021
Carolyn Joyce Roberts , daughter of the late Edna and Walter Ellington, was born in Newark, New Jersey on February 2, 1942.
She received her formal education in the Newark Public School System. Throughout her school years, she was active in numerous student organizations and activities.
During the early years of her life, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the New Jerusalem Holiness Church of Newark. Over the years, she remained steadfast in her service to the church and the joy of the Lord was forever in her heart.
In 1958, Carolyn met the love of her life, Edgar Roberts, Jr. They were united in holy matrimony on October 24, 1949, and shared a love that endured for 59 years. Carolyn was a supportive and devoted wife who through the years brought the perfect balance in her endearing marriage. As a mother and grandmother, she looked well to the ways of her household; was strong but compassionate; and she taught her children to be respectful and independent. For 30 years, Carolyn labored untiringly at Greystone Hospital in Morris Plains, New Jersey to ensure the well-being of her family. She was a loyal, dedicated employee who gave her best at whatever she encountered. Upon retirement, she relocated to Albany, Georgia where she remained until her demise.
Carolyn was the best wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend anyone could ever hope for. She had a servant's heart and felt most comfortable when helping others. The distance that she would go for her family was also the distance that she would go for a friend or a stranger—never expecting anything in return. Her kind, gentle spirit will always have a very special place in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of being a part of her life.
On May 4, 2021, Carolyn answered the call to eternal rest and peace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edgar Roberts, Jr.; her son, Alonzo Roberts; and four siblings, Marion Rambo, Beverly Rambo, Ernestine, Rambo, and Walter Ellington.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Aykie L. Shabazz (Monique) and Reginald (Tawanna) Roberts of Albany, GA, and Ernestine (Robert) Robins of West Palm Beach, FL; brother, Wendlyn (Nora) Roberts; grandchildren, Dacia, Todd, Yasmin, Aykie II, Nia, Alexandrea, Karlisha, Jonathan, and Jahnetia; great grandchildren, Jordan, Kendrick, Hunter, Michaiah, and Kingston; nieces and nephews, Patricia Moore, Jeanette Sledge, Yulanda Ellington, Guy Thomas III, Christopher Thomas, Matthew Sledge, and Michah Sledge; a very close family friend, Johanna Palmer; two very special friends, Pastor Willa Den and Ms. Zelle; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
