IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carrie Belle
Salter
July 14, 1942 – December 29, 2022
Carrie Belle Slaughter Salter was born in Dawson, Georgia on July 14, 1946. She was the beloved daughter of the late Reverend Willie D. Slaughter and Annie Will Sapp Slaughter. She was affectionately known as "Sugar Bee' by her father; "Bobbie," Bye," "Barbara," and "Ms. Salter" to many; but to us, she was called Mom, Grandma, and Auntie.
She was educated in the Terrell County Public School System , graduating from Carver High School. Carrie was a talented young lady who valued education and took advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. She participated in various school activities which enabled her to enjoy a diverse, well-rounded school experience.
Carrie was reared in a loving Christian home where they worshipped and praised the Lord. Her favorite scripture, Psalm 23, guided her life. She had unwavering faith that the Lord was her Shepherd and knew firsthand what it was for a shepherd to protect and provide for their sheep. Without doubt, God covered all of Carrie's needs both spiritually and physically. Whether she was resting in green pastures, led beside still waters, on the path of righteousness, or in the valley of the shadow of death, Carrie feared no evil and God always prepared a table in the midst of the enemy. She knew God was with her, His road and staff comforted her, her head stayed anointed with His oil and her cup always ran over. Whenever you saw Carrie coming, you knew her entourage—Goodness and Mercy was surely following her. Now Carrie is dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.
On Thursday, December 29, 2022, Carrie answered the call to be with the Lord. It broke our hearts to see her go; she will forever hold a special place in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold Leon Salter; and eight siblings, Susie M. Slaughter, Eula M. Turner, Willie Pearl Antrich, Minnie D. Armstrong, Laura Johnson, Willie D. Slaughter, Jr., Charlie Slaughter, and Gary Slaughter.
Cherished memories will forever remain with her children, Lynda Salter, Howard (Patricia) Salter, Lydia Rush, and Anthony Salter; daughter-in-law, Lana Salter; sisters, Ann Smalls and Schuylar Davis; 19 grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Carrie S. Bray; 38 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
