Obituary

Catherine Carter Moody was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 3, 1932, to the union of Randolph and Dora Williams Carter.

She moved to Albany, Georgia with her family at an early age and was educated in the Dougherty County School System. During her school years, she actively partici-pated in various school events and activities.

Having professed her faith and belief in Christ Jesus at a very early age, she was bap-tized and received the "right hand of fellowship" into the body of Christ. She was a faithful member of First Bethesda Baptist Church and served willingly wherever needed. Over the years, she was a dedicated member of the Senior Usher Board and the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She was a vessel who was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord, who loved her church family immensely, and who was strong in character and wisdom.

On October 22, 1949, she was united in holy matrimony to George W. Moody. Their union endured through the years and they became the loving parents of seven children. Catherine believed strongly in family ties and responsibilities and after the death of her sister Dora, she became the caregiver/mother of her one year old nephew whom she nurtured through adulthood. As a wife and mother, she was con-stant in her efforts to care for the needs of her family; unwavering in her dedication to foster a hoe filled with love, peace, and joy; and diligent in her actions to conquer any task placed before her. Family was paramount and her commitment to them was the cornerstone of who she was.

"MaMa Cat" as she was affectionately called, had a profound love for helping people. This love was evident through both her personal life and her career. At home, she opened her doors and her heart to many family members, friends, and anyone in need. Professionally, she enjoyed a very diverse and rewarding career, including domestic services worker for families stationed at Turner Air Force Base and the Marine Corp Logistics Base; cook at various restaurants throughout Albany/Dougherty County; State of Georgia Youth Development Center technician; Albany ARC; and school crossing guard and cafeteria cook in the Dougherty County School System. She took great pride in her work and a "job well done."
Catherine was never satisfied with idleness and immersed herself in an array of organizations and activities. She was known for her love of traveling, mingling with others, and service to her community. She was affiliated (past and/or present) with the NAACP, Chaplain and Lifetime Member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary 2785, American Legion Auxiliary Post 512, Senior Friends, Golden Key, Silver Sneakers, Ram Rooters, and Kay H. Hinds Senior Enrichment Center (RSVP) Nursing Home Group.

On January 9, 2020, Catherine/MaMa Cat transitioned peacefully to live with her Lord and Savior. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Moody; four siblings, Randolph, Jimmy, Sammie, and Dora Carter; and her son-in-law, Kofi Antwih.

Loving memories will be cherished forever by her children, Rudolph (Brenda) Sigler of Tinton Falls, NJ, Gloria Bronson of Albany, GA, George W. Moody, Jr. of Akron, OH, Gertrude Moody of West Palm Beach, FL, Rufus Moody of Albany, GA, Loretta Antwih of Monroe, MI, Donna (Derick) Barber of Albany, GA, and Betty G. (Alfred) Young of Wake Forest, NC; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
