Obituary

The season of life for Ceola L. Jones began on September 17, 1945, in Cordele, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Nathaniel L. Lawrence and Ethel Lee Williams Butt.

Ceola received her primary and secondary education in the Crisp County School System.  Throughout school, she was an active and inquisitive student, always wanting to understand how things worked, and was a ray of sunshine to teachers, classmates, and friends.

At a very early age, she professed her faith and belief in Christ Jesus.  After relocating to Albany, Georgia, she united with the Oakie Hill Baptist Church where she served faithfully in numerous capacities.  Her faith in God made her resilient and enabled her to live a life full of meaning and purpose.

Ceola was formerly married to Sammie Jones.  She was a selfless, altruistic mother who ate not the bread of idleness and always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.   Having been blessed with extraordinary culinary skills, she untiringly in food services at Merry Acres Cafeteria, M&M Mars, and Carter's Chicken for many years.  She was a hard worker who constantly looked for ways to create new and innovative mouth-watering dishes.  In later years, she was employed as a dietician with the Albany Youth Detention Center where she retired after rendering numerous years of dedicated service.  Ceola had a burning desire for excellence and ultimately achieved it at each place of employment.

Affectionately called "Ola" by family and friends, she was a very loving and caring individual with a sweet, quiet spirit and was always willing to help in any situation.  Family and friends were paramount in her life and she never hesitated to extend her warmth, care, and kindness to them.  Ola had a servant's heart, noticed the beauty in all things, and saw the good in everyone.  Her glowing personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her dearly.

On November 28, 2022, Ceola transitioned from this earthly season to eternal peace and rest.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kim Lawrence; and three siblings, Lonnie D. Butts, Willie Lee Butts, and Patricia Ann Butts.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her daughters, Diane      Lawrence of Atlanta, GA and Kimberly L. Calloway of Albany, GA;      siblings, Annie Lou White of Athens, GA, and Eula Mae Ray, Charlie Mae Butts, Ethel May Flowers, Deborah Ann Wheeler, Charlie C. Butts, Jr., and Grady Butts all of Cordele, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews,      cousins, extended family, and friends.
