Obituary

Charles Edward Martin, beloved son of Mary Martin and the late Earnest Martin, was born in Albany, Georgia on November 6, 1961.

He received his primary and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System. Throughout school, Charles was a very inquisitive student whose mind never ceased questioning. He garnered much from his educational experiences while gaining valuable technical and industrial skills that heightened his interest in the trucking industry.

Charles began his walk with the Lord at a very early age.  He was a member of New Testament Missionary Baptist Church  where he served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Kendrick Barlow.  His kind deeds and actions were shining examples of God's love for all mankind.

A very persistent and conscientious individual, Charles was no stranger to hard work.  He was an over-the-road transportation specialist for various companies for many years.  Charles took great pride in his driving skills and always put safety first.  When faced with major health challenges, he parked his rig, shut the engine down, and retired from driving.

Charles was so full of life that his eyes seemed to smile.  He was a devoted father, nurturing grandfather, unfailing brother, awesome uncle, committed cousin, loving companion, and loyal friend, who embraced life with open arms.  He put passion into fostering relationships and he loved spending time with family and friends. Charles was welcoming to everyone and considered no one a stranger.  In his free time, he enjoyed sporting events—especially when his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs, was playing.

On February 11, 2023, Charles transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Martin; and his brother, Johnny Rodgers.

Cherished memories will forever remain with his mother, Mary Martin of Augusta, GA; his life companion, Annie Walden of Albany, GA; three daughters, Tyesha (Nicholas Howard, Lori Martin, and Tonika (Devin) Goode all of Albany, GA; siblings, Everlene Martin of Albany, GA, Paulette Garcia of Augusta, GA, and Elijah Martin of Plains, GA; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
