IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlie Edward
Carr
February 22, 1928 – April 10, 2024
Charlie Edward Carr, also known as Woody, was born in Early County, Georgia on February 22, 1928. He was the son of Nettie Whitehead Carr and Sam Wright. Throughout the early years of his life, he was nurtured and cared for by his mother and loving stepfather, the late Thomas Carr.
He received his formal education in the Early County School System. While in school, Charlie gained valuable life skills that followed him into adulthood.
Growing up in a warm, loving Christian home, Charlie was taught early to love and reverence God. As a youth, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. In later years, he united with Oakridge Baptist Church and remained steadfast and prayerful throughout life's journey. He never ceased to give God praise for his many blessings.
In 1953, Charlie was united in holy matrimony to Bertha Mitchell. Together they built a home life that was anchored in love, adventure, and true devotion to each other until Bertha's demise in 2002. In many ways, Charlie defined the meaning of a devoted husband, dedicated father, loyal friend, and conscientious worker who took great care in providing for his family. Over the years, he worked untiringly as a lawn maintenance specialist; rendered top notch service that met the needs of his clients; and tackled each job with equal importance, no matter
how large or small. He was often referred to as a "jack of all trades" because of his many skills and talents, and his ability to master any task given to him.
Woody was a kind, generous man who stood ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Family and friends were paramount in his life and he delighted in spending quality time with them. He was a great conversationalist who often spent countless hours sharing stories and giving advice. His enthusiasm and exuberance were contagious and will forever be remembered.
On April 10, 2024, Woody peacefully departed this earthly life at his home. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Roy Carr.
Precious memories will forever remain with his children, Robert (Gloria) Lewis, Mary Mosley, John (Windle) Carr, and Michael (SherJuana) Carr; his grandchildren, Vanessa, Roderick (Sebrinia), Yolanda, Wantisa, Robert Jr., Julia, Kevvin, Nekisha, Tanya, Biron, Kyla, John Jr., Shantel, and Jordan; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
A very special thank you is extended to his granddaughter Kyla who was caregiver for 14 years.
