IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlie
Powell
November 27, 1944 – April 15, 2020
Charlie Lee Powell, son of the late Author Lee Powell and Roxie Clark Powell, was born in Terrell County, Georgia on November 27, 1944.
He was educated in the Terrell County School System and was active in numerous activities and sporting events.
During the early years of his life, Charlie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with the Crawford Grove Baptist Church in Dawson, Georgia. Through the years, he was a faithful servant of the Lord and willingly worked wherever needed.
Charlie was deeply rooted in the soil. From a child, he developed an unquenchable passion for farming that endured for many years. Like many men of his era, he was an avid farmer who was very conscientious, hardworking, and persistent. Charlie gave his very best at whatever he did—whether plowing, weeding, planting, cultivating, or harvesting. He also worked at C & S Limestone Company of Albany for numerous years where he worked diligently to ensure that no task was left undone.
Strong—yet humble, Charlie had a good heart and an endless reservoir of love for family and friends. He was sensitive and possessed the ability to see the needs of others. He was very generous and willingly shared his blessings with others. Charlie gave and expected nothing in return. Oftentimes, he could be found enjoying the beauty of nature—sitting by a creek or pond fishing. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving brother, a caring uncle, a cherished cousin, and an unforgettable friend and neighbor who touched the lives of people around him in a very special way.
On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, Charlie's earthly journey ended as he entered into eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Albert Powell, Sr., Billy Powell, Willie Author Powell, and Lottie Staffin.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosa Powell, four children, Rickey Powell, Montreal (Kari) Powell, and Debra (Evans) Primus all of Albany, GA, and Geraldine McCrayof Valdosta, GA; grandchildren, Tiffany Powell, Lashawna Powell, Montreal Powell, Jr., Tynisha McCray, Ted McCray, Rickey Powell, and Kayla McCray; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
