Obituary

Mother Clair R. Covin George was born on March 20, 1945, in Leesburg, Georgia. She was the beloved daughter of the late L. C. Covin and Mary Lee Adams Covin.

During the early years of her life, she was educated in the Lee County (Chokee) School System..

From a very young age, Clair was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she began her Christian journey with the Lord at Phillip Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend W. W. Whitehead. She served faithfully in many areas of the church. She was a dedicated member of the Choir where she served as president, chairman of the Kitchen Committee, and a member of the Usher Board. In later years, she continued her walk with the Lord under the guidance of Reverend Solomon Loud, Jr., at New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church. While there, she served as president of the Divine Women of Purpose Ministry; and Assistant Mother of the Church. Mother Clair was a molder, a shaper, and a builder of young women and mothers. Even in the midst of failing health, she stayed on the battlefield—always giving God the praise and glory.

She was united in holy matrimony to Junior Lee George. As a wife and mother, she diligently provided for her family through diverse employment ventures. While living in Brooklyn, New York, Mother Clair was employed as a live-in Nanny for seven years. Upon relocating to South Georgia, she accepted employment as a seamstress with Lee County Manufacturing where she labored untiringly for 17 years. Never satisfied with idleness, Mother Clair completed the skills and knowledge testing to become a certified CDL driver. As a CDL endorsed driver, she took great pride in her driving skills which resulted in more than 18 years of an accident-free driving record and career.

Always gentle, kind, and personable, Mother Clair lived a full and enjoyable life. She was highly respected and deeply loved by all who had the privilege of having her in their lives. Her friendliness and kindness to all people, her love for the community, and her devotion to family and friends are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul. One of her finest qualities was gratitude. Even in the midst of life's ups and downs and more than 30 years of health challenges, she was always grateful for every good thing that came her way. Her stamina and strength helped us realize that every day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Often described as a difference maker and a humble lady, Mother Clair impacted many lives and families in the community. Despite incredible odds, she remained steadfast, unmovable; and faithful until the end—as she would often say, "Yes, indeed!" She enjoyed fishing, gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, and the time spent with friends and family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held the "key to her heart." Fondly call "Great" by her great grandchildren, she truly was GREAT! She was the strong, unchangeable, and GREAT matriarch of our family!

On Friday, December 21, 2018, Mother George peacefully transitioned to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie L. Butts; and six siblings.

She leaves to cherish precious memories six children, Marilyn M. George of Warner Robins, GA, Robyn E. Thornton of Macon, GA, Benjamin G. (Halley) George of Alpharetta, GA, Paula R.
