Obituary

He lived, he loved, he laughed! Clayton Henry was emboldened with an undeniably innate energy that will continue to flow through the memories and hearts of all those whom he knew and cherished. He loved his family and friends and displayed a shining example of how a father should nurture and support his children. Born in Worth County on May 15, 1948, to the late Benny Lee and Gracie Bell Henry, Clayton made lasting impressions and created fond indelible memories-too many to enumerate.

As a teenager, Clayton Henry graduated from Holley High School and then matriculated to Monroe Area Technical-Vocational School, earning a certificate in auto mechanics. Soon after, he was hired by Huckabee Buick and Albany Dodge. Following a very brief stint working at the Dodge dealership, Clayton began his career at Albany State College (now University), from which he retired in 2011 after 30 years of committed service.  Clayton was a very skilled mechanic, specializing in building transmissions.  In his spare time, he loved communing with nature through fishing and hunting, and he enjoyed quality time hosting his family and friends. He was also an exceptionally skilled billiards player.  Among many of his other talents, Clayton was a BBQ pitmaster, and anyone who has eaten his smoked chicken or grilled ribs can attest to his blessed hands.

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, the author dipped his pen into the ink of life and completed this last chapter of the book of Clayton Henry. His story proved to be one enveloped with all the colors, tones, temperatures, and fullness that one could only hope to experience in one's life.

In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by his brothers Benny Henry Jr., Douglas Henry, John Lee Henry, Jessie Henry, Larry Henry, and his sister, Willie Pearl Shaw.  Remaining to cherish Clayton's memory are: his four children, Ryan (Nekola) Ward of Albany, Georgia, Tracy (William) Purvis of Houston, Texas, Teresa (Ricky) Taylor of Marietta, Georgia, and Brandon Gerard Henry of Albany, Georgia; five grandchildren: Cori DéWane Lee of Warner Robins, Georgia, Robert Dennis Mulkey, III, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Treasure Alexis Mulkey of Houston, Texas, and Haley Noelle Ward and Hayden Christopher Ward, both of Albany, Georgia; six siblings: Lillian {James (deceased)} Wilkins of Tampa, Florida, Catherine Carter of Sylvester, Georgia, Freeman (Maylen) Henry of Albany, Georgia, Carolyn Henry of Tampa, Florida, Bobby Henry of Sylvester, Georgia, and Donnie (Fred) McKinney of Cameron, North Carolina; a host of nephews and nieces; and a multitude of family members and friends
