IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cora Bell
Hill
May 17, 1932 – May 13, 2017
Cora Bell Hill was born on May 17, 1932, in Terrell County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Bennie and Bertha Boone Wooden.
She attended the public schools of Terrell County and participated in various school functions.
As a youth, Cora Bell heeded the call of Christ and began her journey with the Lord at the Second Mount Zion Baptist Church in Terrell County where she was a dedicated member. She was an active member of the choir and usher board.
Cora met and married the love of her life, Cecil Hill—a union that endured through the years. They were blessed with one daughter, Dorothy Jean; and were diligent in her upbringing.
Over the years, Cora garnered much from her life experiences and held fast to her belief that work is honorable. She was diligent in caring for the needs of her family and ate not the bread of idleness. Her ambition, drive, and fervor spurred her to become a small business owner. For numerous years, she owned and operated Hill's Maid Service that provided employment opportunities for several of her nieces and nephews and taught them the importance of hard work and perseverance. She was later employed at Grover's Enterprise and Sunnyside Baptist Church where she retired after many years of loyal and dedicated service.
Mother Cora, as she was affectionately known by many people, was a strong but gentle woman with a heart of gold. She was compassionate, full of empathy, patient, and loving. In her family, she was the "calm in the storm—the glue that held them together." She believed deeply in unconditional love, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and delighted in helping and caring for others. Her doors were always open—if you needed someone to talk to, she had a listening ear; if you were hungry, her table was spread before you; if you needed a shoulder to cry on, she was there to wipe away the tears; if you needed a little hug, she was there with open arms. No one was looked upon as a stranger; rather, friends who became a part of the family.
On Saturday, May 13, 2017, Mother Cora was called home to rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cecil Hill; nine siblings, Louise Johnson, Bessie Mae Cole, Bertha Mae Raines, Willie Wooden, Ozell Wooden, Grover Wooden, Bennie Lee Wooden, Jr., Jimmie Lee Wooden, and Crawford Lee Wooden; and one great grandson, Skyler Lee Wooden.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories a devoted daughter, Dorothy (Victor) Mayberry of Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren, Timothy (Sheresse) Wooden, Latoya (Frederick) Ford all of Albany, GA, Tyrone (Kaleasha) Ford of Cordele, GA, Victoria Mayberry, Victor Mayberry II, Valencia Mayberry, Latrice Mayberry, and Victor Mayberry III all of Chicago, IL; ten great grandchildren; a devoted niece, Maude Smith; six sisters-in-law, Celestine Wooden, Lucinda Wooden, Bettye Evans, and Ola Abdullah all of Albany, GA, and Sahirah Allatayeh and Patricia Loman of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Willie Hill of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
