Curtis "Cherry" Johnson Jr. was born December 14, 1938 to the late Curtis Cherry Johnson Sr. and Lucille Johnson Glover in Boston Ga.

He was a member of the Baptist Church at a young age, later in life he became a member of the Church of Christ, Gaines Ave of Albany, GA, where he served faithfully his greatest love for teaching Wednesday morning bible study for 15 years.

Curtis graduated from Monroe high school with the class of 1956. Following high school, he attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee Alabama.  Curtis had a rich and fulfilling career serving in the Air Force, being a substitute teacher in Dougherty Co, Supervisor at McGregor, Agent at Virginia Life Insurance, Supervisor at Firestone, and Procter and Gamble where he retired after 24 years of service. After he retired, he became the owner of J-One Apparel where he built long lasting rapports with organizations, schools, and people in the community through his service.

Curtis was a social butterfly and was an aerobic instructor at Carver Community Center of Albany, GA and a softball coach for the Lady Renegades for many years.

Curtis was married to Bettye Whitaker, in that union two children were born Derrick and Lisa (Johnson) Dombrowski. June 17, 1988 Curtis was joined in holy matrimony to Betty Jackson. They were married until his death of 31 years.

Curtis was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Curtis leaves to cherish his love and memories, his wife Betty Johnson; his children, Derrick (Ansa) Johnson, Lisa (Frank) Dombrowski, James Johnson, Sherylya Lenee McCuller (proceeding in death). Grandchildren: Jarrett Johnson, Weslyn Johnson and Brandon Johnson. Loving nephew Adrian Daniel; Brothers: Donchester Johnson of Albany, GA, Franklin "Dee Dee" Johnson (proceeding in death). Sister-in-laws, Angie (Gary) Simon Atlanta, Ga, Gloria (Arthur) Robinson, Carolyn(Gregory) Mitchell Dawson, Ga. Two special friends: Dexter Toson and  Shirley Boone and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date by the family.
