Obituary

Cynthia Lee Stephens was born July 17, 1954, in Leary, Georgia.  She was the beloved daughter of the late James Lester and Loretha Stephens.

She received her primary and secondary education in the public schools of Calhoun County.  Throughout her school years, she was a vibrant, inquisitive student who was a ray of sunshine to peers, teachers, and close friends.

At a very early age, Cynthia confessed her faith and belief in Christ and united with the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Leary, Georgia.  She was a dedicated member and willingly assisted wherever needed.  In later years, she united with Faith Holiness Church under the leadership and guidance of Bishop Dr. Clifford Lovett.  Throughout her journey with the Lord, she remained prayerful and unwavering in her daily walk.

Cynthia was a very conscientious, independent individual with an everlasting love for her children—Rhoda and Christopher. Being a mother was one of the greatest joys of her life and she never faltered in her duties and responsibilities.  Those who encountered her often described her as a  caring, hardworking mother who provided unconditionally for her family.  For many years, was employed at Flint River Textiles of Albany where she worked diligently to ensure that no task was left undone.  She later joined the ranks of employees at Cagle Keystone in Camilla, Georgia, rendering exceptional service until her health declined.

"Sapp," as she was affectionately called, was a strong but gentle woman with a heart of gold.  She was a kind woman who put a lot of effort into making others happy.  Regardless of the circumstances, she was always there to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return.  Family and friends were among her greatest cherished gifts and she took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with them.  Her doors were always open to anyone in need and her friendliness and kindness to all people are lasting tributes to the beauty of her heart and soul.  One of Sapp's finest qualities was gratitude. Even in the midst of health challenges and adversities, she was always grateful for everything that came her way.  She had a quiet strength that will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her dearly.

On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, Cynthia transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Stephens, Lewis Stephens, and Willie James Stephens.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Rhoda (Tony) George and Christopher (Alequeana) Stephens; siblings, Mary (Walter) Stephens, Michael Stephens, Robert Stephens, Eddie (Dorothy) Stephens, Johnny (Cynthia) Stephens, and Freddie Stephens all of Leary, GA, Drucilla Stephens McIntyre of New York, and Silas (Joanne) Wheeler all of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Montavious Johnson, Prophetess Porsha (Joshual) Hunt, Vashad Christian, and Krislyn Stephens all of Albany, GA; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
