IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daisy Bell
Starling
April 14, 1939 – February 6, 2025
Daisy Starling, a beacon of faith and devotion, was born on April 14, 1939, in Terrell County, Georgia. She was the beloved daughter of the late George Sherman and Oberziner Cheeks. The third of twelve siblings, she grew up in Terrell, Lee, and Dougherty Counties; graduating from Monroe High School in1958—a milestone she carried with pride throughout her life.
Her spiritual journey began early at Sanders Gift Baptist Church, where she dedicated herself to Christ.
Though she briefly resided in Jacksonville, Florida, Daisy returned to Albany, Georgia, rekindling her bond with her cherished church family. Her unwavering faith and love for her congregation mirrored the depth she held for her own kin.
A resilient mother of four sons, Daisy balanced motherhood with steadfast work at Gullison Carpet and later M&M Mars Candy Company, retiring after years of diligent service. Her hands, equally skilled in labor and love, nurtured vibrant gardens—earning her the endearing title "flower lady"—and crafted legendary dishes like her cornbread, sweet potato pies, "Daisy" pie and her iconic "PanCakes" brought joy to countless gatherings. Daisy found solace in the simple pleasures of life, from watching old Westerns to her daily walks through the neighborhood, where her warm greetings left no stranger untouched.
Daisy was preceded in death by her beloved sons Michael Lynn, Arthur Lee, and De'andre; five brothers, Charles, Charlie, Melvin, Randolph, and George; and three sisters, Juanita (Betty), Marie, and Juanita.
Her legacy lives on through her devoted son, Willie James Starling Jr. (Peter Rabbit);
grandchildren Jamilia and Jawanza (Desiree) Starling; sisters Eva Browner, Angela (Bruce)
Jones, and Brenda (Kaywood) Moses; brothers Willie (Cindy) Sherman and Michael (Eugenia) Cheeks; cousin-sister Johnnie Tumblin; dear friends and Care-Angel Patricia Dunn "Ms. Pat"; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched.
Daisy's life was a tapestry of resilience, love, and quiet strength. Though she rests now in
eternal peace, her spirit blooms eternally in the hearts of those who loved her.
