David Jerome Payton was born in Albany, Georgia on January 9, 1961. He was the beloved son of Mrs. Jessie Mae Payton and the late Reverend Bennie Payton, Sr.
During the early years of his life, he received his formal education in the Dougherty County School System.
David was a husband, father, and grandfather who gave his very best at everything he did. He was profoundly devoted to his family and would go the extra mile to ensure their happiness and well-being. For numerous years, he worked untiringly at A-1 Pooling Company. He was a loyal and dedicated employee and took great pride in his work.
Devoted husband, loving father, unfailing brother, caring uncle, and loyal friend; David was a good-natured, generous man with a big heart. He embraced life with open arms and believed deeply in unconditional love. Often described as a people's person, David enjoyed spending time with family and friends; engaging people in hours of endless, thought-provoking conversation; and helping anyone who was in need. His one-of-a-kind personality attracted a wide circle of people who were the recipients of a long and lasting friendship. His love for family and their love for him will forever be treasured.
On January 11, 2019, David's earthly journey ended and he transitioned to eternal rest. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Nellie Virginia Miller, Henry Payton, Verna Peterson-Holiday, Bennie Payton, Jr., and Katherine Gail Payton.
Precious memories will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Mrs. Erica Payton of Albany, GA; his children, Camiella Payton (Gregory Geter) of Duluth, GA, and David Payton, Jr. and Kontravious Nelson of Albany, GA; his mother, Jessie Mae Payton of Albany, GA; two grandchildren, Carter Nelson and Amilya Payton of Albany, GA; siblings, Freddie (Gladys) Payton of Franklin, GA, Calvin Payton (Remy) of Raleigh, NC, Carolyn Cooke (Frank Farrell) of Indianapolis, IN, and Merita (Benjamin) Newell of Decatur, GA; mother-in-law, Minnie Nelson of Albany, GA; aunt, Lucille Lawson of Albany, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
