Obituary

The season of life for Debra Jean Bryant began on January 11, 1955, in Albany, Georgia. She was the first born to the union of Margaret Collins Bryant and the late Edward Bryant, Jr.

Debra Jean was educated in the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe High School in 1972.

Having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, Debra Jean united with the Greater Second Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member who dearly loved the Lord and her love of His Word gave her comfort and security throughout life.

Deb, as she was affectionately called, had an abiding love for family, friends, and children. Blessed with a nurturing spirit and strong work ethic, she touched the lives of countless students while employed with the Dougherty County School System as a paraprofessional at Sylvandalem Elementary School. She had a true passion for working to help students reach their full learning potential. Her caring spirit enabled children to bond with her and she left an indelible positive impression upon those in her care. Debra Jean's work history also included employment at Bob's Candies for several years until the plant's closing.

Her tenacity and strong desire to cultivate young minds and talents ultimately led her back to her true passion and calling—caring for children. Not only did she greatly impact and care for her sister Keysa and nephews Ralph, Cavin, Raynard, and Marcus, but innumerable other children in the neighborhood and beyond until her health declined.

Yes, Deb established herself as an exceptional individual with a God-given gift to enrich lives and make a difference. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of being a part of her life.

On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, Debra's earthy season ended as she transitioned to everlasting peace with the Lord. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Monica Bryant; and two siblings, Roxie Bryant and Michael Bryant.

Loving memories will forever remain with her son, Shocothan Jamaal Smith of Albany, GA; granddaughters, Mashawntis Smith of Albany, GA, Zhda Jamaya Smith and Nyla Jamarie Smith of Atlanta, GA; great granddaughter, Ke'omi Massey of Albany, GA; siblings, Cynthia Price, Edward Bryant III, and Keysa Perry all of Albany, GA, and Pearlie Jenkins of Dothan, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a devoted friend and caretaker, Wilbert Williams.
