Obituary

Devo Sherell Hunter was born June 13, 1964 to Emma Jean Hurst Hunter and the late Bennie Hunter, Sr., in, Camilla, Georgia. She was a 1982 graduate of Westover Comprehensive High School and attended Albany Technical College and Albany State University in Albany, Georgia. She was multi-talented and worked a variety of jobs ranging from nursing assistant to insurance agent to loan officer. Sherell joined the Albany State University Family on January 5, 1998 as an Administrative Assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences. Department of English, Modern Languages and Mass Communication. After sixteen years of employment and service Sherell retired from Albany State University on January 1, 2014.

Sherell was an adventurous woman who sought to enjoy as much as possi-ble about life, living, and all of God's creation. Sherell loved the Lord and confessed her life to Christ at a young age joining Travelers Rest Mission-ary Baptist Church, in Decatur County, Georgia. She later moved her membership to Weldon Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Albany under the leadership of Pastor Kelvin Hawkins where she served faithfully until her health began to fail.

Sherell never met a stranger. She enjoyed going places and met many friends along the way. Many of those she met remained in her life through the years. Sherell loved music and she loved to dance. She loved her family and she loved her friends. She was a dedicated member of a group of women known as the "10 Strong" (Andrea, Crystal, Cleo, Sue, Cassandra, Paula, Rhonda, Kwanis, and Cheryl). She could always be counted on as the first to respond in the group's chat and the first one ready to participate in any adventure. Her personality was magnetic. Having conversation with her revealed she was very knowledgeable on many subjects.
Sherell's health began to decline in 2013. There were several times when she was in and out of the hospital. Each incident seemed to make her more determined to win the battle. Her struggle was epic. She was driven to show that her failing health would not limit her strong will to regain her health and live life to the fullest. Her struggle to survive and God's inter-vention kept her overcoming the odds. Her death has left a vacuum in many hearts. God has granted her peace, an observable peace.

On Friday, January 24, 2020 at 1:56 a.m., God embraced her in His arms and enfolded her in His love. A precious one from us is gone; a voice we love is still. A place is vacant in our hearts that can be filled nevermore.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her two children, Denzel Brown of Atlanta, Georgia and Darius Brown of Albany, Georgia; her mother, Emma Jean Hurst Hunter of Albany, Georgia; siblings, Bennie Hunter Jr. (Lisa) of Albany, Georgia, Peter L. Hunter (Tamatha) of Snellville, Georgia, and Charles E. Hunter and Spencer R. Hunter both of Albany, Georgia; a devoted friend/sister, Andrea "Cheer" Felton of Albany, Georgia; a lifelong friend and father of her sons, Leo Brown of Sylvester, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
