Obituary

Dianne Davis Oliver, beloved daughter of the late John Lee Davis and Nancy Sirmans Davis, was born May 7, 1953, in Albany, Georgia.

She was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Monroe High in 1971. Throughout her school years, she was a very considerate, attentive young lady with a deep yearning to be of service and help others.

From a very early age, Dianne was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she began her fellowship with Christ at Third Kiokee Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully availed herself in service through the years. She was a dedicated member whose faith never wavered, was steadfast in service, and remained spiritually strong throughout life's journey.

In 1972, Dianne was united in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart, Sammy James Oliver. They were blessed with a loving son Roderick. As a wife and mother, she delighted in supporting her family.

Dianne was a woman of many skills and talents who possessed a burning desire and call for service to others. Her passion for making a difference and the protection of her community led her to a life-long career with the Albany Police Department where she distinguished herself as a stellar law enforcement office.

Dianne was a very unique and exceptionally conscientious employee who daily poured herself into her work—always giving her best. Throughout her tenure, she never shied away from a challenge and worked tirelessly and calmly to help keep Albany communities safe and to improve the quality of life for all citizens. She was a top-notch organizer who wore many hats and titles during her years of service, including Community Oriented Policing Coordinator; Organizer and Coordinator of the Voices of Hope Police Choir, Adopt-A-Cop Program, Junior Police Program, and numerous Neighborhood Watch Programs. Dianne also served as a Training Officer an worked in the Uniform, Juvenile, and Detective Divisions. Because of her dedication and commitment to community service, she was recognized for her contributions to law enforcement and received the U. S. Department of Justice FBI Survival Awareness In-Service certificate, Outstanding Contributions to Community Oriented Policing, Completion of Homicide Investigation Training and Outstanding Leadership Awards. Her career was marked with unmatched integrity, high expectations, and perseverance. Faced with severe health challenges, Dianne retired as Lieutenant in 1999, having rendered unapparelled service. In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking and engaging friends in hours of "thought-provoking" conversation.
