IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas Tyler
Young
February 1, 1966 – September 13, 2017
Douglas Tyler Young, the son of Betty McClaine Young and the late Carvin Douglas, was born in Staten Island, Richmond County, New York on February 1, 1966.
A lifelong resident of Staten Island, he attended school in Richmond County and played basketball during his middle and high school years. In 1979, he displayed some impressive moves on the court during a "once-in-a-lifetime" game in Madison Square Garden.
As a youth, he attended the Fellowship Baptist Church with his family under the guidance of Reverend Arthur D. Phillips.
Doug, as he was affectionately called, had an endless reservoir of compassion for people and loved everyone with whom he came into contact. Anyone who knew him was very familiar with that wide smile that so often lit his face. He loved life and he loved his family. Doug was a "trooper." Even after becoming disabled, he continued to persevere through the trials and challenges of life. He was strong-willed and never gave up on anything—especially eating the foods that he enjoyed most, a footlong hero and pizza.
On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, Doug's earthly journey ended at the Lillian G. Carter Nursing Home and Health Center in Plains, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
Douglas leaves a lifetime of memories to be cherished by his mother, Betty McClaine Young of Camilla, GA; three siblings, Kevin Young and Christon Davis of Staten Island, NY, and Crystal Smith of Camilla, GA; loving aunts, Gloria Young and Lynda (Paul) Hing of Staten Island, NY and Henrietta Davis (James) Calhoun of Camilla, GA; nieces and nephews; a very close friend, Dell "Shybone" Edwards of Staten Island, NY; special cousins, Beverly Young, Aaron Jackson, Jerry Young, Arnold Young, and Gregory Young all of Staten Island, NY; and a host of other cousins, extended family, and friends.
