Obituary

Eddie George Dixon, son of Virginia Crawford and George Dixon, was born in Albany, Georgia on August 26, 1955.

He received his formal education in the Dougherty County School System, including Monroe Comprehensive High School where he graduated in 1973. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed throughout the United States and abroad, and served his country with distinction. Eddie was a military enthusiast who received numerous commendations and awards as he advanced in the military ranks. He was the recipient of the Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, German Marksmanship Bronze Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. While living in Alaska, he earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Service from Wayland Baptist University. At the close of his military career, he retired with full honors.

A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Eddie was steadfast in his service while attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Eddie was profoundly devoted to his family and friends. He was a supportive and devoted father who, through the years, brought the perfect balance in his children's lives. As a father and grandfather, he was a gentle but stern disciplinarian who taught his children to be respectful and kind. He was an incredible brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who loved the people in his life with heartfelt sincerity and was always willing to lend a helping hand. "Daddy, Junior, Papa, Grandpa, and Eddie G." as he was affectionately called, touched the lives of people around him in a very special way. He will be deeply missed by family and friends who dearly loved him. In his leisure, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing board games, and spending time with his children and grandchildren who held the "key" to his heart. His loving kindness and sense of humor will be missed.

On Friday, January 18, 2019, Eddie's earthly journey ended in Leesburg, Georgia, as he entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Eva Mae Nelson; sister, SaQuita Lee, nephew, Arthur Moses, Jr., and aunt, Annette Burnett.

He is survived by his children, Mesa and Jeremiah Dixon; three grandchildren, Kyra, Makenli, and Zia; parents, George Dixon and Virginia (George) Crawford; siblings, Queen Moses, Shirley Thomas, and Roslesa Dixon; aunts, Della Davis, Joanne Davis, and Ruth Davis; uncles, Hubert Lee Peterson, L. V. Whipple, Henry Hall, Ezell Hall, Robert Hall, Larry Hall, and Otis Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my portion forever." Psalm 73:26
