Obituary

Edna Bell Hampton, daughter of the late Bell Jones and Rayfus Hollis, was born in Preston, Georgia on September 8, 1937.

During the early years of her life, she attended the public schools of Webster County where she was actively participated in various school functions and activities.

From a very early age, Edna was nurtured in the Word of God and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.  In later years, she united with the Union Missionary Baptist Church.  She was a faithful servant of the Lord and remained steadfast in service until her health declined.

Edna was joined in holy matrimony to Walter Lee Hampton.  Their union endured through the years as they shared many happy years together.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and meticulous homemaker whose love for her family was matchless.  She found great joy in spending time with her family—especially the grandchildren who were the "apples of her eye."

Often described as a warm and nurturing individual, Edna was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need.  She had a servant's heart and felt most comfortable when helping others.  An exceptionally talented cook, Edna spent many hours in the kitchen stirring up mouth-watering, downhome soul food.  Her doors were always open and her table was always spread for family and friends.  In addition to cooking, she enjoyed fishing and sitting on the porch engaging in hours of thought-provoking conversation.

On Thursday, October 1, 2020, Edna answered the Master's call to come home.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Lee Hampton; two children, Larry Jones and Johnnie Mae Jones; and four brothers, Raymond Hollis, Jams Hollis, Johnny Ray Hollis, ad Henry Hollis.

She leaves a lifetime of love and memories that will be cherished by her sons, Silver (Mattie) Jones and Felton Hampton; siblings, Rayford Hollis, Jr., Avala Hollis, Richard Hollis, Roland Hollis, Jason Hollis, and Randy Hollis all of Atlanta, GA; eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; her best friend of more than 50 years, Amy Ray; and a host of niec es, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
