IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eleanor
Couch
June 8, 1940 – September 26, 2024
Eleanor Idell Couch was born in Tallahassee, Florida on June 8, 1940. She was the second child in the union of the late Richard and Mamie Ford.
She received her early childhood and secondary education in the Leon County School System. Throughout her school years, she was a very zealous, astute young lady who took advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. Hailing from a family that valued higher education, Eleanor continued her quest for knowledge at Florida A & M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
In 1978, Eleanor was joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Pastor James Couch, Jr. With this union, she became the mother of seven bonus children who loved her dearly. Through the years, she was a true anchor and helpmate to her husband's calling; and she delighted in supporting him, their children, and their grandchildren in all of their endeavors. Eleanor was steadfast and unwavering in her dedication to foster a Christian home filled with love, joy, and strong values. Her diligence in caring for her husband and children was the personification of a Proverbs 31 Woman, "A wife of noble character whose worth was far above rubies. Her husband had full confidence in her and lacked for nothing. She did him good all the days of his life. Her children rose up and called her blessed." Her faith in God made her resilient and enabled her to live a life full of meaning and purpose.
Eleanor was blessed to have had a profound professional career for many years. As a classroom teacher in both the Leon County and Ft. Pierce, Florida School Districts, she was relentless in guiding, inspiring, and nurturing young minds and talents. Her career was marked by the highest level of teaching excellence; and as a result, she received numerous awards and accolades. She was also briefly employed by the State of Florida.
Endearingly called "sister" by her siblings, Eleanor was a good natured, generous lady with a big heart and a pleasure to be around. She believed deeply in unconditional love, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and delighted in helping and caring for others. Her presence will be deeply missed.
On September 26, 2024, Almighty God in his infinite wisdom and sovereignty called his faithful served home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children.
Cherished memories will forever remain with her beloved husband, Pastor James Couch, Jr.; her children, Lonnie (Antoinette) Crouch, Sr., Linda Crouch, Gertrude Crouch, Margie (Otis) Johnson, and Shoshannah (Shon) Houston; siblings, Juanita Yarn and Earl Ford; sister-in-law, Ruth Thompson;17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends
