IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth
Dickerson
February 22, 1950 – January 6, 2025
From eternity on to the canvas of time, our beloved and cherished mother, Elizabeth "Anne" Baldwin Dickerson, was born on February 22, 1950, in Brinson, Georgia, to Rufus Calvin Baldwin and Eula Mae Baldwin (Lurry). She was a woman of immense grace, strength, and faith, whose impact touched countless lives.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things… endures all things. This was their love. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Marvin Dickerson for 40 years until his passing on February 21, 2024. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and service to their family and community.
From an early age, Elizabeth confessed her faith in Christ at the Lamar Street Church of Christ in Bainbridge, Georgia, a congregation that holds deep significance in her family's history. Her father, Rufus Baldwin, opened his home to host worship services for African Americans when no church building was available. Demonstrating unwavering faith, he later purchased land and established the Lamar Street Church of Christ, a legacy that continues to serve the community today.
Elizabeth graduated from Albany State University in Albany, Georgia, earning both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Accounting. Her academic achievements were the foundation of a groundbreaking career.
A true pioneer, Elizabeth shattered barriers throughout her professional journey. In the late 1960s, she became the first Black woman operator employed by the Bellsouth Company in Bainbridge, Georgia. In the early 1970s, she broke new ground as the first Black administrative secretary for clerk of courts in West Palm Beach, Florida. As a result, Elizabeth required escorting to and from her job at the Palm Beach County Courthouse by the Black Panthers. It was undoubtedly a time of profound and transformative change.
Elizabeth's unwavering love for the Church of Christ guided much of her life. She devoted her talents and resources to advancing the church's mission, including creating church bulletins in the 1970s and 1980s; serving as Office Manager for both the River Road Church of Christ and the US 19 Church of Christ for more than 20 years. She also spearheaded government grants to support church community outreach efforts, further exemplifying her dedication to service.
Elizabeth was the matriarch of the family, a beacon of wisdom, love, and strength. She cherished her family above all and relished the moments spent with her great-granddaughters, Charley Anne and Brailey Lynn Rodney.
Elizabeth peacefully passed away on January 6, 2025.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Tammie Baxter and Tabatha Baldwin; her devoted granddaughter Ashley Baldwin; her treasured great-granddaughters, Charley Anne and Brailey Lynn Rodney; her siblings Carolyn Brown, Gail Johnson, Trynni Williams, and Darrell Baldwin; her in-laws Samuel Brown and Ethel Baldwin; and a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who were blessed by her life and legacy.
Elizabeth's life was a testament to faith, resilience, and the power of love. She will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who know her.
