The life of Eloise McClain Hilson began on January 1, 1946 in Albany, Georgia. She was the fifth of six children born to the union of the late James and Annie J. McClain.
During the early years of her life, she received her formal education in the public schools of the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Monroe High School. She continued her education at Albany Technical College. Ms. Hilson held positions at Albany State and Girls, Inc.
She accepted Christ at an early age and later attended Greater 2nd Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with her family while she smiled, worshipped, and listened to the word of God.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late John Hilson. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and secretary she taught the importance of hard work even through the difficult places in her life.
She was a loving and active grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. Even in the midst of health challenges and adversities, she exemplified the strength to endure. Her stamina and strength helped many to realize that every day is a blessing and that we should all create lasting memories.
On February 18, 2021, Eloise transitioned from this earthly life at Wilson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband John Hilson; sisters Addie, Lucille, Dorothy, and Helen McClain; one brother, Eddie McClain; one son, Dewayne Smith and one grandson, Dontavious Woodbright.
Her beautiful life and radiant smile will forever be cherished by her loving children: Tracy (Nikki) Smith, Raynard (Hope) Smith, and Sonji (Randy) Downs all of Albany, Georgia, Michael (Cynthia) Gilbert of Decatur, Georgia and Thereon Stewart; twenty-five grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren; A host of nieces and nephews and a devoted friend and caregiver, Renita Ellerson.
