IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Friday
Anthony
August 4, 1949 – April 16, 2023
Deacon Friday Anthony, beloved son of the late John and Frances Anthony, was born in Arlington, Georgia on August 4, 1949.
He received his formal education in the Calhoun County School System, including H. T. Singleton High School in Morgan, Georgia.
Throughout his childhood, Deacon Anthony was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, he professed his faith and belief in Christ Jesus; was baptized; and became a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. As his love for God and the church strengthened, he was ordained as a Deacon and, thereafter, devoted himself to unparalleled commitment and service to this calling for over 50 years. He was a powerful prayer warrior who was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and didn't mind spreading the Word of God wherever he went.
Over the years, he was steadfast and unmovable—always giving God the glory and praise. His faith and trust in God guided his life and allowed him to be an example for his family, friends, church family, and all who encountered him.
Deacon Anthony was united in marriage to his life-long mate, Rutha. Together, they embarked on a life filled with love and true devotion to each other. For 52 years, he proved to be a strong tower and true anchor to his wife.
As a husband and father, he supported his family in all their endeavors and often sacrificed his needs for the good of his family.
A highly skilled and talented individual, Deacon Anthony's work experience in the construction industry began at the Firestone construction site where he labored untiringly until the plant was completed. He was later employed with the City of Albany—Water, Gas, and Light Department. Throughout his employment, he never shied away from a challenge and tackled each task with equal measure. He was a loyal employee who was totally committed to his job and always provided superior service. Upon retirement in 1992, he received numerous accolades for more than 32 years of dedicated service and a job WELL DONE. Never satisfied with idleness, Deacon Anthony also worked for the late Dr. Findley from 1986 to 2017. In his leisure, he enjoyed grilling, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Deacon Anthony was well loved and highly respected by everyone who knew him. He had a special way of getting to know people and becoming a part of their lives. His friendliness and kindness to all people; his willingness to lend a helping hand; his love for his community; and his devotion to his church, family, and friends are lasting tributes to the beauty of his heart and soul. He has left footprints that will forever be embedded deep in our hearts.
On April 16, 2023, Almighty God called his faithful servant home to eternal peace and rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Audrekous Davis; three siblings, Reverend Australia Anthony Greene, Willie Lee Anthony, and John Lee Anthony; and two nephews, Ricardo Greene and Charlie Lee Anthony, Jr. who truly valued his Uncle Friday traits.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Rutha Anthony; his children, Deidra Oliver, Richard Gay, and Doris Davis; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; six siblings, Charlie (Ethel) Anthony, Jessie Reed, Betha Myles, Anne Gregoir, Annie (Eddie) Brown, and Mary Frances Jackson; sisters-in-law, Mamie Anthony and Margaret Lyons; 31 nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, church family, and friends.
