Obituary

GEORGIA MAE WASHINGTON was born in Lee County, Georgia, on October 11, 1945. She was the beloved daughter of late Reverend Eunice Washington and Katherine Washington Jackson.

She was educated in the Lee County School System, including George Washington Carver High School. Throughout school, Georgia was a considerate, attentive young lady who demonstrated exceptional potential while developing a deep passion, genuine care, concern, and calling to serve others.

Very early in life, Georgia was taught the Word of GOD and the importance of living a life of strong character and loving kindness. As a youth, she accepted CHRIST as her SAVIOR and began her journey of Christian stewardship at Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership and guidance of the late Reverend E. J. Menefee. It was there that her love for GOD was strengthened and her spiritual gifts were nurtured. Georgia's unfaltering journey brought multiple levels of service in various capacities and ministries, including Supervisor of the Youth Guild and member of the General Mission, Daughters of Esther, Church Finance Committee, Senior Choir, Missionary Choir, and the Combined Voices. Over the years, she was active in the Fowltown Missionary Baptist Association, where she served in the First District as the Sunshine Coordinator and Bible Bowl Coordinator for Jordan Grove. In the Women's Auxiliary of the Association, she served as Registrar and Assistant Supervisor of the Women of Excellence. Georgia loved serving and unyieldingly believed that because THE LORD called her to duty—to serve was truly an honor. Her strong faith and unwavering convictions allowed her to be an example for her family, friends, church family, and all who encountered her.

A very conscientious and persistent individual, Georgia 's professional career was marked by hard work, high expectations, and unquestionable integrity. Her diverse work experiences included employment with Bartley Restaurant, Doublegate Country Club, The Print Shop, Dillard's, and TJ Maxx. No matter what the job title, position, or task, Georgia worked diligently to maintain her standards of excellence and exceptional work performance.

Known for her kind, gentle spirit and unconditional love, family was paramount in Georgia's life. She was an altruistic mother who looked well to the ways of her household and often sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. Not only was she devoted to her family, she was also a loyal friend who delighted in helping others—never asking anything in return. Georgia had a deep, abiding love for children and was a beacon of inspiration for them. Having the privilege of being loved by her was to be loved for a lifetime. In her leisure, she enjoyed listening to music, hair styling, chewing gum, and above all—reading her Bible.

On May 27, 2024, Georgia quietly answered THE MASTER'S Call to eternal peace and rest.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, George Washington, and several aunts and uncles. Although her parting leaves avoid, we rejoice in Philippians 1:21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her children: Andre' (Marcia) Washington, Theaia Washington, and Bernard(Vivian) Washington; grandchildren: Tiffany(Rodney), Ricardo Jr., Vontressa (Anthony), Taja (Jason), Andre' Jr., Andrew, Natasia (Brittany), and Jessica; six great grandchildren; four siblings: Joe Nathan (Ethel) Washington, Deacon Eunice (Wyona) Washington, Katherine Washington, and Geraldine (Robert) Ponder; sister-in-law, Virginia Washington; aunt, Hazel B. Jenkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
