IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine
Covin
April 10, 1952 – October 23, 2021
Geraldine Thomas Covin, beloved daughter of Lucille Lawson and the late Ernest Jackson, Jr., was born in Albany, Georgia on April 10, 1952. She grew up under the guidance, love, and care of the late Ernest and Rosa Lee Linkhorn.
She received her formal education in the Dougherty County School System and was active in various school functions and activities.
From a very early age, Geraldine was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior; united with the First Bethesda Baptist Church; and availed herself in service as an Usher Aide and a member of the Choir and numerous other auxiliaries. She later continued her walk with the Lord at Blue Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Blessed with the gift of leadership, teaching, and a love of children, she served faithfully in the Youth Department and as an Assistant Sunday School teacher. She dearly loved the Lord and lived her conviction of service daily.
Family was the joy of Geraldine's life. She was an exceptional mother and grandmother who lovingly and unselfishly sacrificed her needs for the good of her children, Ervin and LaTasha; and her grandchildren, Makenzie, Jolon, and Alana. Her love and kindness also extended to her ister/brother/cousins, Sallie, Beverly, Evelyn, Glenda, and Ronnie who grew up with her in the same household. "Gerri" was she was endearingly called, lived a simple but meaningful life; enjoyed decorating for the holidays; readily voiced her opinion and didn't mince any words; and was the glue that held her family together.
Often described as meticulous, energetic, and extremely organized, Geraldine's duties and responsibilities at Sherwood Christian Academy were tackled with equal measure. She was a valued employee who stayed the course to ensure that no task was ever left undone until her retirement.
October 23, 2021, Gerri was called home to be with the Lord. In addition to her father and her guardians, Rosa Linkhorn, Ernest Linkhotn, and Lewis Lawson, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Lawson, James Jackson, and Pierce Jackson; and her cousin/brother, Ronnie Williams.
Fond memories will forever be cherished by her mother, Lucille Lawson; her children, Ervin Covin, Jr. and LaTasha (Matt) Idlett; grandchildren, Makenzie Idlett, Jolon Idlett, and Alana Covin; siblings, Patricia (James) Culver, Linda Jackson, Barbara Jackson, Alfonzo Lawson, Sammy Jackson, and Anthony Jackson; one aunt, Jessie Payton; a special cousin, Rosetta Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
